Andy Garfitt, Go-Getter

We wanted to take the opportunity to introduce you to Andrew Garfitt. Andy, 22, is one of our long standing Go-Getters, who continues to make us smile on shift with his quit wit and desire to impress, making working with Andy a pleasure.

Andy is currently in his third year at UCLan, where he is studying Computer Games Development, which is both a hobby and career for him.

In October 2017, Andy was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and times have been quite tough for him. In Andy’s own words ‘Today I am still picking up the pieces and I’ve got a long road to getting better but looking how far I’ve came over the past 4 months is so motivating. I’ve kept myself occupied through shifts at work and contacting old friends. But a couple of event managers have gone beyond their job to help me out and that overall what makes Get Staffed more than just a normal company.’

We are over the moon to hear such wonderful words from one of our Go-Getters, not only are we extremely proud of Andy who continues to work extremely hard for us, but we’re proud of our Event Managers who have helped him along the way.

Andy continued to tell us how ‘He loves that the staff look out for one another at Get Staffed, on top of the job they’ve given me all the support I’ve needed to get through the past 6 months. They also provide unique work with great experience and enjoyable shifts.’

Andy is working towards achieving a 2:1 in his degree and hopes to gain a full time position with Get Staffed UK once he completes university; whilst building a portfolio and skills to help him obtain a role as a software developer. We have every faith that Andy will get his 2:1 that he’s aiming for and hope he achieves everything that he sets out to do!

It’s clear to us, that all of our Go-Getters and Event Managers are a huge fan of Andy, who is a hard worker, determined to do well. Charlie Dearden, Event Manager, told us ‘It’s always great getting your event rota and seeing Andy’s name, you know you’re going to have a good shift and you’ve got a reliable and hardworking member on board. Viva la Garfitt.’ (We got blackmailed into writing Viva La Garfitt by Charlie).

Big thank you to Andy for all your hard work at Get Staffed UK, we’re so happy you enjoy working with us and that you’ve been able to develop your skills in communication and team working during your time with us!

Race Season!

Summer is on it’s way!

With summer fast approaching, our calendar is filling up with exciting events.

Last week, we were at the races, our team had some great shifts and they love their accommodation… What’s not to love about a week away, where you get paid to work with a great team, in a job you love!?

The accommodation alone made the trip worth it! Log burner and outdoor hot tub.

Our Go-Getters were absolutely #LivingTheDream with one member of our team describing the racecourse as ‘what dreams are made of!’ We think he was deadly serious.

It’s been a great experience for our Go-Getters who have experience working in such a wide variety of events that we’re 100% sure they can adapt to any situation, yes… any!

One of our Senior Event Managers, Marty, spent the week at the races and won a Race Day Star Award! Marty was nominated for this award as he is happy to help and nothing is too much trouble! His customer service is exceptional and he is a pleasure to work with. Massive congratulations to Marty, well deserved!

Marty said ‘It was a great week, I met loads of new people, I got to know people who worked with us a lot better than I previously did and I learnt so much whilst working there, like how to serve 4 plates at a time. It was definitely a learning experience for me!’

On Thursday, our race course portfolio grew further as we join the team at Hexham Racecourse with Campbell & Rowley for their first race day of 2018. We’re over the moon to have been asked to work with them again, this time branching out into the North East.

We asked Nathan about his time at the race course and he told us, ‘I had a great time! It was really windy but I loved looking after the food and drink for the boxes section… Looking forward to the next one!’

This means that we’re now starting to grow a base in Cheltenham, in Newcastle and in the surrounding areas, allowing us to replicate our business model throughout the UK as we develop our brand and business. We’re excited to be planning our induction in Northumbria for 5th April, and much to Tommy C’s delight, we’ll be hosting 1 to 1’s in a ‘well nice’ bar in Newcastle, allowing him to relive his time at university.

There’s such a great buzz throughout the team when we sign up a new client. We’re over the moon to have the opportunity to prove our model works, and show that our team are super impressive when it comes to delivering exceptional customer service. We can’t wait to get out there, visit more venues and bring our A-game.

Red Rose Awards 2018

Red Rose Awards 2018 #RRA18

The annual Red Rose Awards is a celebration of Lancashire businesses and talent, providing a brilliant platform to promote success and engage with potential customers, collaborators and suppliers.

This huge event took place at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, and what a venue. Olympia is literally a blank canvas, which was truly transformed by the team at Lancashire Business View, into something quite magnificent.

At Get Staffed UK, we’ve been working hard over our first year of trading and saw The Red Rose Awards as an opportunity to showcase our business. With some tough competition and a great application process, we were honoured when we received the news… WE’RE FINALISTS! Being a finalist for the New Business of the Year Award was quite the privilege, something our less than 1 year old business is very proud of. Tom Havlin, Managing Director stated, ‘It’s a great achievement, and some well-deserved recognition for the hard work our employees have put in over the last 11 months… we’re looking forward to seeing how far we have come at RRA 2019!’

As finalists, we had first dibs on tickets so we scooped ourselves a table for 12 (and my goodness did Tom and Tom, our directors, make the absolute most of their pre-order). We invited Cotton Court Business Centre duo, Robert Binns and Jack Barron, to thank them for their support so far, as well as the families of our directors, who are #ProudAsPunch of their boys, which meant it was an emotional night.

Jack, Group Marketing Director of Cotton Court, was mega impressed with the success of the event, stating ‘The first thing that struck me about The Red Rose Awards when I arrived, was the sheer scale of the event. Having been involved with a number of large events myself, I know how difficult they can be to manage. There’s a lot of scope for things to go wrong on events of this size, and with over 1000 people attending, it could have easily done so here. I was pleasantly surprised however, and don’t think it could have gone better. The table service for drinks was timely, bar well-handled and the food came out prompt & most importantly, hot! The serving staff were pleasant and professional, and it was quite enjoyable to see the sea of suited staff getting amongst the tables, in an almost synchronised manner. The show that was put on before the ceremony began was top notch, and the actual awards process was enjoyable and well produced. I’ve seen a lot smaller events suffer because of poor planning or not having the right team together, so I’ve got a lot of respect for all those involved in pulling this off and ensuring all the crucial components of a successful evening were put together.’

Did we mention we were a huge part of the event? One of our amazing clients, With a Twist Catering, asked us to provide 36 members of waiting on staff, 19 kitchen team members, plus 6 managers and 6 team leaders! Then we were offered the opportunity to provide an additional 30 wine waiting staff to The Winter Gardens… yes, for the mathematicians out there, that’s 97 members of staff!

Tom Craig, Operations Director, was bursting with pride when we asked him about the event and said, ‘We got to see our employees take control and really thrive in a busy event environment! We didn’t bring home the award, however it was a very proud moment to watch our Go-Getters deliver a fabulous service from start to finish. The Red Rose Awards were definitely a success for GetStaffedUK and our lovely client With A Twist catering, who once again produced an amazing meal for 1100 guests! We were the real winners on the night having the opportunity to deliver a fantastic service to so many successful businesses in Lancashire. We hope the level of service was noticed by these businesses and that it will open doors to future events of this calibre for us.’

We spoke with our fabulous Go-Getters in their various departments and here’s what they had to say…

‘The team pulled together and delivered the best possible service. Any problems we encountered were seen as challenges that the team accepted head on and overcame, I couldn’t be more proud of the Get Staffed UK kitchen team’

Chris Barker, Event Manager – Kitchen Team

‘The kitchen was fun to work in and everyone worked extremely well together. Can’t wait to smash it again next year’

Eoin Catterson, Go-Getter – Kitchen Team

‘Working the Red Rose Awards was a brilliant experience, seeing all the local businesses coming together and celebrating their success was lovely to see and great to be a part of’

Charlie Dearden, Event Manager – Food Service Team

‘The Red Rose Awards was a great event to be a part of and getting the opportunity to run the floor was amazing, it’s probably the biggest event I’ve done so far as a senior Event Manager. I’m looking forward to working at the Winter Gardens again!’

Sean Devlin, Senior Event Manager – Wine Waiting Team

We’ve also had some wonderful feedback from our clients. Catherine, With a Twist Catering, said that ‘Nathan (the Event Organiser for the evening) was AMAZING and I couldn’t fault a single member of the rest of your team.’ This was shortly followed with feedback from Gregor, Winter Gardens who said ‘it was perfect!’

Last but not least, we want to say an absolutely HUGE thank you, to Nathan Luke, who led the event like an absolute pro from start to finish. We are over the moon with Nathan, who at just 20 years old, handled the event exceptionally well, filling the entire rota and ensuring that staff were motivated, working effectively and working to their strengths. Massive thanks to you Nath!

Until next year…
